Professor of North Carolina College ‘surprised I won’ after fighting ‘war against dei’

North Carolina State University Professor Stephen Porter is celebrating after his university threw Dei on his strategic plan after his official complaint.

Porter has learned applied statistics and data analysis for graduate students at NC State since 2011.

The self-described “Populist Republic” has been fighting Dei’s policies at university for the past decade and believes he achieved his first victory in February.

“Two weeks ago, I filed a complaint citing four violations of the UNC system policies for institutional neutrality and the prohibition of forced speech. The university has now admitted to three of four charges – but they are saying as little as possible,” Porter wrote in his blog.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Porter said he was surprised and excited when he learned that the university announced that he would make changes only two weeks after he had filed his complaint.

“I wasn’t sure exactly what would happen. So I was really, really happy with the end result,” he said.

The university announced on February 25 that he had made language reviews in his strategic plan and vision and values statements in order to approximate the policy of equality of the UNC system.

Porter had filed a complaint to the UNC Governors Board on February 8, claiming that the NC state was violating the UNC system policies for institutional neutrality and forced speech in many ways, including in its strategic plan.

In 2023, the UNC Governors Board voted to stop Dei’s statements and forced speech from acceptance, hiring, promotion and practices of possession of 16 public universities.

The UNC also abolished and replaced its policy of diversity and inclusion with a “equality politics”, which requires schools to “comply with non -discrimination laws, respect institutional neutrality, refrain from compulsory speaking of others, and refrain from promoting political or social concepts through training or beliefs.”

Porter said these policies “scored an important victory for intellectual freedom at North Carolina public universities.”

However, he says his university simply moved his “underground” dei measures instead of eliminating them.

For example, Dei terms remained in the strategic plan of NC State and other strategic plans at various colleges at the university, he said.

The university also renamed his office dei many times instead of abolishing the office.

“For me, it was really offensive when they just renamed the office. Likes how, really? So are you respecting that?” He noticed.

The university should have got rid of this office and hire people “who actually believe in equality of opportunities compared to the equality of results,” he added.

Porter’s complaint quoted other alleged violations, such as 4,750 references to “diversity, equality and inclusion” on administrative websites and text on the University Pride Center website, which said students and faculty members are required to use a student’s favorite pronouns.

This text has since been removed from the university website.

In Porter’s complaint, he asked the Board to review these alleged violations and take any necessary corrective action.

Although he heard nothing back, he was pleasantly surprised when he saw the university announcement and said that the university seemed to be “quietly cleaning” some of the websites that that flag in his complaint.

“I was surprised to win in the strategic plan,” he told Fox News Digital. “That was what I really cared about. I thought, boy if anything could happen if we can remove these things from strategic plans, it’s just a big, big victory.”

When it came to comment, North Carolina State University referred to the Fox News Digital in the February University statement on changes.

The UNC governors’ board did not respond to a comment request.

The professor’s victory comes after he lost a federal lawsuit for civil rights against the NC state in 2021 in which he claimed revenge for criticism of Dei and social justice at the university.

The university’s announcement came just two weeks after universities in the state were ordered to dismiss mandated loans, capital and involvement course in order to respect President Trump’s Executive Order Trump, inside High Ed reported.

Porter told Fox News Digital that he was pleased with the actions of the Trump administration by treating Dei in education.

“I wake up every day eager to read the news,” Porter said. “It has been absolutely delightful. A fantasy becomes true.”
