Michigan Gretchen Whitmer governor is under fire by other Democrats after appearing along with President Donald Trump during a White House signing ceremony, stirring allegations that it was used as a “prop”.
“Only AF catastrophe,” said a democratic operative, who usually supports Whitmer but spoke anonymously about NBC News.
“It feels like it removes some of the moment it had as a political rhythm demot.”
Whitmer was in Washington for what was supposed to be a private meeting with Trump on Wednesday. Instead, she ended up staying away on the side while the president signed executive orders demanding the investigation of two aides of the first term administration that were critical of his actions.
Many of the orders were not supported by Whitmer, but its presence near the established table gave the look of the support, an image that did not pass unnoticed by its party members.

In an earlier speech that morning, Whitmer hit a surprisingly charming tone to the controversial policy of the Trump administration.
“I understand the motivation that stands behind the tariffs and I can tell you here where President Trump and I agree,” she said.
“We need to do more items in America.”
It emphasized the common goals of strengthening American production in key sectors such as cars, steel and computer chips.
While she later criticized the tariff time, warning against the issuance of the “tariff hammer to swing in every problem”, her comments marked a noticeable break from potential Democratic rivals such as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who have openly opposed Trump’s economic agenda.
The events of the day aroused fresh questions about Whitmer’s political instincts, just as the early crossing for the democratic field begins.
