Semisonic condemns the use of the white song Hit Hit ‘Closing Time’ in the eviction video

Semisonic Band made it clear Monday that he did not “authorize or condone” a White House video using their song “Closing Time”.

Official White House accounts and border and border protection (CBP) X posted the video showing expulsions in the famous 90s song, with the White House presenting the lyrics, “You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”

In a statement posted a few hours later, Semisonic said the band did not approve the video and that the Trump administration had “lost the point” of the song.

White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt explained the video during the Monday press conference, saying “summarizes our immigration policy quite well: you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”

“The White House and our entire government are clearly relying on this president’s message and we are not afraid to double and take the responsibility and ownership of the serious decisions that have been taken,” Leavitt said. “The president was elected with an overwhelming mandate to launch the largest campaign of mass expulsion in American history. And that’s exactly what you are doing.”

Semisonic joins a long list of famous gangs and musicians, including Foo Fighters, Celine Dion, Beyoncé and Abba, who have complained about President Donald Trump using their songs during the White House campaign or events.

An obvious exception is the people of the village.
