Google to pay $ 28m to repay claims that favored whites, Asian employees

Google agreed to pay $ 28 million to repay a classroom action lawsuit claiming to favor white and Asian workers by paying them more and placing them in higher career songs than other workers.

Mention with Google, a unit of the alphabet, earned previous approval last week by Judge Charles Adams of the Santa Clara County Supreme Court in California.

He called the solution fair, reasonable and “a good class result” of at least 6,632 Google employees in California between February 15, 2018 and December 31, 2024.

Google spokesman Courtenay Mencini confirmed the solution on Tuesday, but said, “We continue to disagree with the allegations that we treated anyone differently, and remain committed to paying, hiring and flattening all employees fairly.”

The lawsuit was led by Ana Cantu, who is identified as Mexican and indigenous racial, on behalf of the Spaniards, Latinx, indigenous, native American, Indian Indian, Local Hawaii, Pacific Islander and Alaska Native in Google.

Cantu said that she did exemplary work over seven years in Google and Cloud people’s operations departments, but still immersed at the same level of work while white and Asian peers received extra salaries and promotions.

Cantu said Mountain View, the Caliph -based company, placed white and Asian employees on “levels” higher than other employees, even for the same job, and promotions and promotions held by those who complain.

Cantu said Google’s actions violated the act of equal wages in California. She left Google in September 2021.

Adams said the solution came after Cantu’s lawyers agreed this month to exclude black employees from the proposed class that Google had requested.

Net repayment Income total $ 20.4 million after dropping $ 7 million for legal fees, fines related to Cantu’s request under the General Act of Private Advocates of California and other costs.

Adams planned a 9/11 hearing to take into account the final repayment approval.

Cantu’s lawyers did not respond immediately on Tuesday to commentary requests.

The case is Cantu V Google LLC et al, California Supreme Court, Santa Clara County, No. 21CV392049.
