The Associated Press complained on Monday that the White House did not allow the photographer and her reporter to attend an Oval office meeting with President Trump and El Salvador Nayib Bukele, despite a court order to restore his approach.
Last week, a Trump -appointed judge ordered the White House to reset the entrance to the wire service that was blocked because the wire service refused to change its style guidelines from “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America”.
“Our journalists were blocked by the Oval office today,” an AP Post spokesman told him. “We expect the White House to restore the participation of the AP in the pool from today, as provided in the Order of the Order.”
The Lower Court order had been stopped for five days until Monday to allow time to file a complaint. Trump’s team is calling for a ruling at the US Court of Appeal for the DC County and is expected to face a hearing on Thursday.
DC US district judge Trevor McFadden, whom Trump named in 2017, refused to delay his order to enter into force Tuesday, despite a request from the Trump administration to give more time for an appeal.
AP, whose style guidance is used in news rooms across the country, was first banned from the Oval office in February and has since been fighting the administration in court.
Before Trump’s second administration, AP enjoyed special daily access to the White House pool, a group of reporters who take the most presidential entrance to the event with limited access to other reporters.
Most reporters enter the White House pool on a rotating basis, but the AP and other wire services Reuters and Bloomberg used to enjoy daily access to the pool.
Trump’s team changed it during its second term and condensed what was once three slots for wire services in a place rotating every day. They used it to make room for “new media” positions.
Moreover, the Trump administration has injected that in the process of pool assignment, which was once treated by the White House correspondents Association (SHCA), and removed reporters you do not want in the mix
The AP has not yet gained access to the rotary wire slot in the White House pool since the stop.
Last Tuesday, McFadden decided that the White House does not have to invite the AP to any event, but should give it similar approaches it offers for other exits.
“The court simply thinks that on the basis of the first change, if the government opens its doors to some journalists-whether in the Oval office, the Eastern Chamber, or elsewhere cannot close those doors for other journalists because of their views. The Constitution requires no less,” McFadden wrote in a 41-page rule.
McFadden also explained that ”AP is not necessarily right for ‘first in line whenever’ permanent press access he enjoyed under the whca“But opposed”Nor can he be treated worse than his colleagues’ wire services”
The post contacted the White House for comment.
