“The View” co-perpetrator Joy Behar said Wednesday that there may be “reaction” against the Republican Party after Justice Department Trump ordered prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing UNITEHEALTHCARE Brian Thompson.
“He’s very popular, this guy, can have a quick reaction,” she said.
“All I am saying is, politically, it can be a reaction against the Republicans to give him the death penalty.”
Prosecutor General Pam Bondi said on Tuesday that Thompson’s murder was “a premeditated, cold -blooded murder that rocked America.”
“After careful hearing, I have addressed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we commit President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and make America safe again,” the statement continued.
Co-president Sunny Hostin suggested that Bondi’s efforts were “an attack on the process”.
“It looks like the Attorney General is acting, indeed, against our institutional standards, which is what this administration is doing,” Host added.
Co-president Alyssa Farah Griffin said she believed in the death penalty, but questioned the impetus for the administration to apply it in the case.
“I was a little surprised, this is where the Trump Department of Justice began,” she said, wondering if they should have been focused on a drug cartel member or in cases of human trafficking.
“I personally believe in the death penalty in the most extreme cases, terrorism, mass murder, with the broader process of appeal in the country, so that it does not make mistakes,” continued griffin, adding, “I personally, I think Luigi mangion and to punish.”
Co-leaders Sara Haines said suffering time in a maximum federal security prison would be a greater sentence.
“I tend to think that the greatest punishment in what he did is stay alive and live with him. I am a great believer in people who have to live with themselves and the choices they have made, and their neighbors around in such places,” she said.
Politico suggested Tuesday that the search for the death penalty against Mangion, who is the only suspect in the case, could make President Donald Trump “lose General Z.”
Politico PlayBook placed news under his flag “6 things you need to know” supports an explosion by reading “How Trump loses General Z.”
