These are the 8 new emojis that will be added to your smartphone: ‘I feel so first’

Tell them how you really feel.

Eight new emojis are expected to hit smartphones soon, and they’re already popular with users who say the inclusion of a bags-under-the-eyes emoticon makes them “feel so seen,” according to the Daily Mail.

The Unicode Standard, the official emoticon standard maintained by the Unicode Consortium that is responsible for creating new emoji, announced new icons this week, which will include a face with bags under its eyes, a fingerprint, a purple spray, a turnip, a leafless tree, a harp, a spade and the official flag of Sark, an island in the English Channel.

“Unicode version 16.0 has been released!” The Unicode Consortium posted on X. “Bringing the total number of characters to 154,998.”

On social media, users celebrated the inclusion of emoji with dark circles under the eyes and a bored or gloomy expression.

“Representation is important. thanks unicode team,” wrote one person on X.

“The perfect answer to any idle interaction no matter what,” agreed another.

“Finally an emoji that reflects my permanent mood,” said someone else.

Version 16 of the Unicode Standard actually added 5,185 characters to the lexicon, including new scripts.

The last time new emoji were added to the huge character index was last September, according to CNET, and the iOS 17.4 update for iPhone brought those emoji to users’ fingertips.

Some of the most popular emojis, of which there are more than 3,700 according to the release, are the most straightforward: a red heart, green check mark, fire symbol, crying face and spark.

On this year’s World Emoji Day – July 17 – a report revealed the emojis most likely to disappear, such as the OK hand emoji, which ranks as the most disliked worldwide. In the US, the tongue out winking face was the least used.

While there are a large number of emoji available to use on your smartphone, those who are not satisfied with the options – or believe that there should be more – can submit a proposal for a new symbol. Meanwhile, Emojipedia also offers a bot-composer that combines emoticons to make custom iterations, while Apple revealed plans to launch Genmoji that uses AI to create custom emojis.
