CNN’s Jake Tapper calls out Kamala Harris for dodging debate questions

CNN host Jake Tapper took Vice President Kamala Harris to task for not answering direct questions during Tuesday’s presidential debate on ABC.

On Wednesday, Tapper said Harris wasn’t too forthcoming about her policies, opening the debate “by questioning the first question on the economy.”

“It went on from there,” Tapper said after playing a video of her response. “Despite the economy being the number one issue facing the country, the incumbent vice president generally returned to talking points for some of her policy proposals. Even Harris’ allies today say she needs to talk more about what she will do for Americans if elected.

The presenter then pointed out another important question that she avoided answering, saying that “she also avoided” the border.

When asked how he could have managed the crisis better than President Biden, Harris began, “So I’m the only person on this stage who has prosecuted transnational criminal organizations for arms, drug and human trafficking.”

“M’kay, that wasn’t the question,” Tapper said of her comment.

“When asked how he would navigate the impasse of the Israel-Hamas war, Harris said this…” he continued, sharing the clip.

“We need a ceasefire agreement and we need the hostages out, and so we’re going to keep working around the clock on that,” Harry said.

“Okay. But again, how?” Tapper asked.

Fox News Digital reached out to Harris’ campaign for comment.

Tapper, a fierce critic of former President Trump, cautioned that he was not “equating” the two candidates.

“While we are in no way equating the two performances last night, it is also true that at times both Trump and Harris did not give straight answers to questions about exactly how they would run the country,” he said.

ABC has been criticized for its handling of the presidential debate, with many arguing that the moderators were downright hostile to Trump while making light of Harris.

Tapper co-moderated the CNN presidential debate in June between Trump and Biden.

Biden’s poor performance that night led to him being dropped from the nomination by party leaders in July.
